Just the place to get a good education
Phelps County is justly proud of its schools. Our school districts - including our Catholic elementary school - have continually improved the quality of their facilities and staff in order to keep pace with a changing world. Unlike urban schools, however, highly favorable student-teacher ratios mean that each child gets plenty of individualized attention. Urban schools may try to leave no child behind; we make sure that never happens. Phelps County schools are also consistently above both the state and national averages on standardized tests and send the vast majority of our students on to higher education. And if you're a student interested in being on a sports team or in student government, in the school play or on the student newspaper, Phelps County is just the place to get the best chance.
For higher education, Phelps County has a satellite campus of Central Community College, and is within easy commuting distance of the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
