Public School System
School District 44 covers approximately 20 square miles. The district is accredited "AA" by the state of Nebraska and the North Central Association. The public middle school was built in 1991, and the public high school was built in 1961. An expansion was completed in the high school in 1991. It is estimated that 92 percent of the eighth grade students finish high school.Educational Service Unit 11
Holdrege is the headquarters for Educational Service Unit 11, which serves six counties. Services available include an educational film/video library, staff development programs, special education programs, distance learning, technology services, gifted education programs, preschool programs, and school nurse.Colleges
The Holdrege Center is part of the Central Community College System which encompasses a 25-county area. The college is governed by an 11-member Board of Governors elected by the citizens of the counties served.Administrative offices are located in Grand Island with campuses in Hastings, Columbus and Grand Island and full-service, off-campus centers in Holdrege, Lexington and Kearney. Further, classes are available through extended learning programs in approximately 80 communities within the college's service area.
The Holdrege Center opened in 1994 and serves Phelps, Harlan, Franklin and Kearney counties. A variety of educational opportunities are available through the Center, including certificate, diploma and degree programs, distance learning technology, community education classes as well as the Adult Basic Education program and business and professional training.
