Even though no one has built a Disneyland in Phelps County yet, it doesn’t mean there aren’t loads of fun and interesting things to do and fun places to go. Are you interested in museums? Movies? Located one mile north of Holdrege on Highway 183, or 15 miles south of Interstate 80 exit 257.

The Nebraska Prairie Museum features extensive collections of prairie history including home and business period rooms, numerous collections and antique cars, farm machinery and tools. A detailed interpretive center displays memorabilia of the original WW II American POW Camp Atlanta which was located near Atlanta. Also on display is a gallery or paintings and illustrations completed by artist Thomas F. Naegele while working as an interpreter at the camp. Out buildings include a Lutheran Church, one room school house, early farm house, POW guard tower, and windmill.
The museum is also home to the Phelps County Historical Society, the
Holdrege Area Genealogical Society, and the National Sod House Society. A genealogical library is available for research.
Admission is by donation, with $5 being the recommended donation for adults and $2 for children ages 5-10, children under 5 are free.

Also known as the Phelps County Center for the Performing Arts, The Tassel accommodates a wide variety of events including theatrical performances, concert attractions, lectures, dinners, and meetings. This beautiful facility – considered by many to be one of the finest in a 100 mile radius – provides seating for 818 individuals. Ancillary spaces include a crisp, stylish lobby with reception, and a spacious green room. The Tassel Coordinating Committee plans a full season of concerts each year in addition to a wide variety of other performances.

The library's total collection, containing approximately 60,000 items, includes excellent selections of fiction, large print books, videos and audio books. Its cake pan collection is regionally famous. Public access Internet computers offer broadband Internet access and the library is a wireless hotspot for laptop users. The HAPL supplements its 90 magazine subscriptions with online access to hundreds of additional magazine titles. An active "Friends of the Library" group raises funds and provides volunteer help with special projects. A catalog of holdings and many other resources are available online.
