Services Offered

The Public Library System has an active program of services for children. Its Children's Library, which is home to a 21 foot book dragon named "Smilin' Sam Smoke," offers twice weekly storytimes for toddlers and preschoolers, an annual summer reading program, educational CD-ROM games and filtered Internet access. The children's Library also reaches out to the community with collections of books placed in the waiting rooms of area clinics, dentist's offices, the hospital, the funeral home and other service establishments.

The library's total collection, containing approximately 66,000 items, includes excellent selections of fiction, large print books, videos and audiobooks. Its cake pan collection is regionally famous. Three public access Internet computers offer fast (T-1) access. And, the library supplements its 120 magazine subscriptions with online access to thousands of additional magazine titles. An active Friends group raises funds and provides volunteer help with special projects. Take a look at the web-based library catalog and find out more at the library's web site below.
