Just the place for kids to play, compete, build, learn and grow
We think any kid in Phelps County who complains that he or she has nothing to do simply isn’t trying very hard. In addition to the extra curricular activities going on in the schools – and there are plenty of them – Phelps County kids can get into dance, theater and a variety of sports. Resources like the 
Holdrege Library and the YMCA of the Prairie offer multiple programs for kids and organizations like the Cub Scouts, FFA and 4-H provide entry into a wide range of activities. And that doesn’t even count our bowling alley, movie theater, swimming pools, parks, tennis courts and the kind of streets and neighborhoods made for riding bikes with friends. Phelps County is a great place to be a kid. And just the place to raise one.

Missoula Children's Theatre makes the Tassel in Holdrege home for one week each summer. While in town, the two directors cast, rehearse, and produce a fully staged musical. This summer's dates are July 6-11th and we will be producing "The Little Mermaid". Auditions are on Monday, July 6, 2009 at 10:00 am at the Tassel and are open to any student entering 1st through 12th grade.The performances are on Saturday, July 11th.

The Public Library System has an active program of services for children, including a dragon you can crawl on, twice weekly story times for toddlers and preschoolers, an annual summer reading program, educational CD-ROM games and filtered Internet access. For older children, the library has a recently remodeled young adult room with game stations and other kid-friendly features. One Saturday a month, the library hoses a Gamers Afternoon with Guitar Hero and other popular games. Free popcorn and punch is available at the free Movie Night, also held once a month.
