The new Web site will market Phelps County to visitors as well as potential new residents and businesses, but also contains features that will be popular to local residents.Sponsored by the Phelps County Development Corporation, the Holdrege Area Chamber of Commerce, Phelps County and the communities of Holdrege, Bertrand, Loomis, Funk and Atlanta, the Website was developed in part with funds made available by a bill passed last year in the Nebraska Legislature to help smaller communities market themselves to the larger world.
The site is divided into four main sections. “Life in Phelps County” has a feature and slide show on each of the five Phelps County communities, and descriptions of the schools and healthcare facilities, as well as lists, descriptions and links to senior resources, youth activities, clubs and organizations, and churches. There are also links and resources to find jobs and housing in the area.
“Business in Phelps County” includes constantly updated business news of interest to companies in Phelps County as well as home pages for the PCDC and the Chamber of Commerce, including a searchable Chamber Business Directory and links to member’s Web sites.
The Business section has a ton of information for companies that may consider relocating here as well as a number of financial and other resources that are available for people who may want to buy or start a business in Phelps County.
The “Visiting Phelps County” section includes guides to lodging and dining in Phelps County as well as descriptions and links of area attractions and activities. One of the most innovative sections of the Web site is geared toward the people who already live here. The social networking features like ‘Neighbor to Neighbor’ that will help Phelps County residents find a babysitter or a fourth for bridge, and ‘Find a Volunteer Opportunity’ that will help organizations find volunteers on the one hand and help people find ways they can serve the community on the other.  Residents can also post events on a universal community calendar and upload pictures to a community gallery.
