Ag Service Associates – Crop Insurance Specialists and Janssen & Sons Ford have recently teamed up to raise funds to purchase new football helmets for the Holdrege Dusters Football program. Head injuries continue to be one of the most severe potential injuries in the contact sport of football. The owners, sales agents and associates of both of these Holdrege businesses agreed that youth participating in this sport should have the best equipment possible and funding should not be a limitation for the safety of our youth.
Approximately six months ago Susan Fulk, an agent of Ag Service Associates, brought it to the attention of John Williams the owner of the business that there was a sincere need for improved equipment within the football program. After consulting with Scott Schoneman, activities director of Holdrege Public Schools, a plan was developed. The goal is to provide 75 new helmets for the program at a cost of $15,000.00.
Ag Service Associates writes crop insurance in a five state region through their crop insurance agency and their agent network. Crop Insurance is the only line of insurance they write which enables them to specialize in their services. “We’re excited to be able to provide risk protection to the youth of our community in the same way we provide risk protection to the ag-producers we work with everyday”, commented Williams.
After the initial investment by Ag Service Associates, Janssen & Sons Ford was contacted about designating the funds obtained from their “Drive One 4UR School” program to the project. Dan Janssen, owner of Janssen & Sons Ford was excited about the opportunity to provide funding to such a valuable project. Dan Janssen commented, “We understand how important extracurricular activities are to our high school students and our community. We also understand how important safety is within these sports and our industry. We’re excited to raise money for this project”.
The final phase of this project will take place on Saturday, April 30th from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the northeast parking lot of the high school. The “2011 Spring Drive One 4UR School Event” has the potential to raise an additional $6000.00 or more. Representatives from Janssen Ford and Ag Service Associates will be present to assist with the event. For every person who test-drives a vehicle during this one-day event, Ford Motor Company and Janssen & Sons will donate $20 to the project. Each test drive will last approximately 7-10 minutes. Participants must be 18 or older and have a valid driver’s license. There is a limit to one test-drive per household.
