A $500,000 Founder’s Campaign, a $3.5 million Capital Campaign, several years of successful annual
campaigns, a new endowment program and helping to start a Y in Lexington — all in the past nine years— have earned the YMCA of the Prairie world-wide recognition. The YMCA of the Prairie in Holdrege received the Eagle Award for excellence in fund-raising at the North American YMCA Development Organization’s (NAYDO) 30th annual Conference on YMCA Philanthropy in Anaheim, Calif. The award is presented annually to YMCA associations demonstrating outstanding achievement in resource development and fund-raising. These YMCAs are recognized as belonging to the top group of charitable causes in their communities. The Silicon Valley YMCA in California also received an Eagle Award for 2011. YMCA CEO Jeff Morgan, Branch Director Kristine Jacobson, Capital Campaign Chairman Rod Streff, Founder’s Campaign Co-Chair Robert McCormick and Branch Board President Connie Jacobson accepted the award in front of 1,400 YMCA volunteers and staff members from around the world on April 29. “It was a honor for our community to receive worldwide recognition for the work of many dedicated volunteers and staff,” Morgan said. “It also goes to show that we live in a very generous community that cares about making our community better and supporting our friends and neighbors.” The conference highlighted and encouraged philanthropy for YMCAs and the good work that YMCAs do around the world to help youth and adults succeed and lead a healthier life. “We proved to the world that a small YMCA can do really big things,” Branch Director Kristine Jacobson said. “Our colleagues were impressed by the number of members who belong to our Y as well as the success in fund-raising over the past decade. We are grateful to the hundreds of volunteers and donors who made this award possible.” The YMCA of the Prairie is now one of just 47 YMCAs who have received this award over the past 26 years that the award has been presented. The YMCA of the Prairie also received a NAYDO Communications Award for the 2009 Annual Report written and designed by Branch Director Kristine Jacobson. The report received recognition in the category of YMCA’s with less than a $2 million budget. In addition, YMCA staff and volunteers gave a presentation at the conference titled “Turning Dreams into Reality: Developing a Big Endowment Program at a Small YMCA.”
