(Gallup) -- Gallup.com reports that a new study of all 50 states and the District of Columbia finds Nebraska is home to the second-best job market when it comes to job creation. The Gallup "Job Creation Index" shows that in 2009, the best job markets were in North Dakota, Nebraska, West Virginia, Louisiana and Maryland. The worst job markets according to the Gallup index were Michigan, Nevada, Oregon, Connecticut and California. The index was compiled using data from approximately 100,000 Gallup Daily tracking interviews conducted with employed adults who were asked whether their companies are hiring workers and expanding the size of their labor forces, or laying off workers and reducing the number of employees they have. Gallup notes that Nebraska, a farm state, benefited "from ethanol and a strong commodities markets. Nebraska was also highlighted as one of the states seeing the least deterioration in jobs, although Gallup notes "every state and D.C. saw job market conditions deteriorate between 2008 and 2009."
